Nov 04, 2012  So if you choose a project rate bottom left of Audacity that is compatible with your sound device, you shouldn't get resampling distortion or speed problems that can happen if you use MME. • Audio Stream In Out (ASIO) creates a more direct connection from the hard drive (sound source) to the speakers, with less buffering. It's a better choice, as long as it works for you. But it does make the system work harder/faster. And the specific drivers can make a huge difference in whether it works on one machine or another.
• Help with sound difference between DirectX and ASIO4ALL (self.abletonlive). Probably your sound card has some kind of bass enhancement effect set up that only works in MME/DirectX mode. So in Live where you're using ASIO you don't hear the effect whether in the original recording or the exported WAV, but if you listen to the same file.

Hey folks, I'm having a huge troubleshooting issue.I've got my 2i2 into my desktop, drivers installed etc. Cables all set up and everything working as far as the 2i2 goes.In Ableton my audio settings look like this:So when I play an instrument through the 2i2 Ableton will pick it up perfectly as an input device, but the 2i2 ASIO can't seem to pick up an output device, so I can't hear sound output unless I switch to MME/DirectX which will result in awful latency.This is all on Windows 10, everything works perfectly on my MacBook Pro but I'd much rather use this desktop.

Any suggestions?Thanks!. Not sure if these have something to do with your problem. But be sure that those drivers will give you low latency.

Also play with the sample rates. I was surprised to learn recently that higher sample rates actually give you lower latency, but i think it also puts more strain on cpu, which means raising your buffer size sooner, and higher buffer size means more latency. Every computer gets different latencies even with same interface, drivers and settings. I get 6.94 overall latency with 6i6 on 2014 15' mbp 96khz sample rate and 128 buffer size. Its pretty low, and unless your 2i2 is 2nd gen and you have a good computer, you wont likely get that low, unless your buffer size is too low and you get crackling. Something like 15ms overall latency is still useable, but try to get it under 10ms if possible. If you dont have really crappy computer and you cant get it at least close to 15, then there is something wrong with the drivers or settings.
